Working closely with our academic colleagues in the Institute of Particle Science & Engineering (University of Leeds) we plan, facilitate, manage and undertake industrial research projects.
As with many of our services, we offer flexible contracts.
Typical examples of the kind of projects we undertake are:
 |
|
Strategic research with ICI
The ParticlesCIC has recently won a prestigious SRF award from ICI to explore and develop novel manufacturing techniques for the manufacture of novel micron and sub micron size and structure particulates and capsules.
The products resulting from these novel manufacturing routes will be applied as functional materials and additives to enhance the functionality of commercial products. With new methods being developed for microencapsulation the application areas of existing polymer systems will be substantially broadened.

Industry funded research projects
- 3 year project for speciality chemicals corporate
- 1 month scoping project for chemicals corporate
- 3 month ceramics project for major energy company
-
Joint government & industry funding
- EPSRC CASE studentship with software SME
-
Secondments of staff to or from industry
- Centre staff member seconded to German chemicals corporate
- Requested to staff 2 weeks of field trials for utility company
-
Government funding
- EPSRC Sustainable Materials network - see MiMeMiP below
- Knowledge transfer partnerships
Our projects range from a few weeks to 3 years and are undertaken under contracts with clear confidentiality, IP, and delivery.
We believe that the costing of a project is paramount to its ultimate success. Our fixed priced contracts will deliver the agreed project specification and scope, and as long as you don't change that, then we won't change our price.

Working in collaboration with the Mineral Industry Research Organisation Ltd (MIRO) we are developing a network of industrial and academic researchers to engage material scientists and the mineral and metals mining and processing sectors in the UK. MiMeMiP is one of seven Sustainable Materials networks funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council.
Our aim is to stimulate and develop new strategies for sustainable practices and products in the mineral, aggregates, metal mining and processing sectors. To achieve this aim we are undertaking:
- Topical meetings of interest to stakeholders (industry, academia, associated service suppliers e.g. equipment, consultants); NGOs and other government agencies.
- Commission strategic reports and roadmaps to identify key issues of industrial relevance to the mining and mineral sector.
- Arrange field visits to new industrial best practice and to educate its members.
- Fund feasibility studies to explore new concepts for future research.
- Issue newsletters featuring articles on key emerging issues.
- Seek to encourage secondments & work placements to broaden the experience of its members.
- Stimulate new research in sustainable practices in the mining and minerals community.
- Foster professional collaborations in EU & internationally to speed up dissemination and adoption of best practice.
- Seal links with other relevant SUM Networks and emerging networks in creative arts and engineering.
