Upcoming First:
Getting Started in Particle Technology
3rd - 6th March 2008
This intensive course will provide an extensive overview of the fundamentals of particle technology with the emphasis on concepts and practical problems. This will give you a crucial understanding into the technology of powders, helping to minimize powder handling and processing problems and assisting industrial scientists and engineers to improve existing operations.
The course is relevant to those who have recently become engaged or already working with the handling or processing of powders that have a good understanding of chemical engineering processes. This includes chemists, physicists, pharmacists, mechanical and chemical engineers in the pharmaceutical, food processing, nuclear, chemical, oil, mineral processing, detergent and related industries.
What you will learn
- A broad understanding of the fundamentals of particle technology including nanotechnology
- Knowledge of working in a particle characterisation laboratory
Download the flyer or contact l.daintree@leeds.ac.uk for further details.
Rheology of Complex Fluids
23rd - 24th April 2008
This course is relevant to employees who use rheometers that need to understand and interpret data. The emphasis of the course is material properties of complex fluids such as colloidal dispersions, emulsions, and polymers solutions and melts.
What you will learn
- Rheology concepts and terminology
- How important rheological properties are measured
- Origins of rheological properties at the particulate and molecular level
- How and why rheological properties are important in various applications
Download the flyer or contact l.daintree@leeds.ac.uk for further details.
Particle and Powder Characterisation
13th - 14th October 2008
This course is relevant to employees using, producing or handling powders and particles in industry, and who need to know how to define, measure and use particle properties.
What you will learn
- The relevance of particle size analysis and bulk powder measurement for characterising powder properties
- Define and measure particle size distribution and evaluate particle size results
- Choose the appropriate particle size instrument / method for the sample
- How to use simple bulk properties to classify different powders
Download the flyer or contact l.daintree@leeds.ac.uk for further details.
Industrial Powder Mixing
8th - 9th January 2009
The course is relevant to those concerned with quality assurance and improvement of existing processes and to those developing new product formulations and processes.
What you will learn
- The relevance of powder flow to the mixing process
- The concepts of free-flowing, cohesive, segregating, structured
and coated powder systems
- How to practically and theoretically assess the quality of a powder mixture
- How to specify equipment fit for purpose
