ParticlesCIC have partnered with the National Physical Laboratory (NPL), CERAM Research and Particle Technology Ltd

ParticlesCIC have partnered with the National Physical Laboratory (NPL), CERAM Research and Particle Technology Ltd to work on a Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) project to produce a practical guide to particle sizing of sub-micron powders.

The first phase of the project is to create a bench mark of current industrial practice through a series of round robins on a range of different powders. The round robins will be undertaken in complete confidence with each laboratory that participates in the scheme being allocated a unique number. All correspondence will be through NPL and not us or the other project partners.

Click here to see the formal invitation to join and click here to access the participation form which is to be returned direct to NPL.

NanoManufacturing and Minerals, Metals and Materials in Singapore

ParticlesCIC adviser Professor Richard Williams, Director Dr Simon Lawson and colleague Dr Jo Dixon-Hardy recently visited Singapore to assess opportunities for potential research collaboration and open access platforms in nanomanufacturing and minerals, metals and materials recycling with the National University of Singapore (Nanotechnology Initiative), Nanyang Technological University (Nanocluster), Nanyang Polytechnic (Incubator and Medical Technologies) and the A*star Institute of Materials Research and Engineering.

Simon and Jo also took the opportunity to explore knowledge transfer and commercial opportunities with the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), BioVenture Centre and Nanomaterials Technology Pte Ltd. The visit was concluded with a tour of the world's largest Tin recycling plant (Singapore Tin Industries Pte Ltd).

Have I got particles for you!

Boris Johnson recently visited the University of Leeds in his capacity as Shadow Minister for Higher Education.

Whilst at the University, Boris visited the ParticlesCIC to learn more about Yorkshire Forward Centres of Industrial Collaboration and how they are pioneering innovative systems for knowledge transfer.

After correcting Boris's assumption that the centre was manned by 'boffins', Dr Simon Lawson, Director of the ParticlesCIC, explained how they are approachable and industry-friendly folk successfully working with regional and national companies to make them more competitive, and safeguarding jobs.

After spending time with colleagues from the Wireless CIC, Boris continued his tour of Leeds University. With the constant media attention in Boris, Simon presented him with a tin of 'stress relieving' Play Putty. No doubt the tin would be in full use later that day as Boris left with his camera crew in tow!
